So much for LeBron James' aching back. After missing two days of practice because of back spasms, James scored 33 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat the New Jersey Nets, 104-83, Wednesday night. James' back problems have been headline news all over town this week. He didn't practice Monday and Tuesday to rest the back and a decision whether he would play against the Nets wasn't made until Wednesday morning.
This week the Major League Baseball season started. This first game is a real test to see how powerful the American League will be this year, The Oakland Athletics vs. The Boston Red Sox. The game was played in Tokyo, Japan as an effort to expand base ball worldwide. It was only a little two game series but it split both ways. The Red Sox dominated the first game with a 6-5 victory. The Red Sox started out 1-0 for the regular season but it was very short-lived because two days later the Oakland A's got some revenge with a whopping 6-1 victory. There was some good out of the loss the offensive powerhouse Manny Ramirez hit the solo shot to give the Sox their one point in the loss. It was good experience playing in Japan who now how has the most Red Sox fans outside the good old United States of America.
Currently there are three bills under debate in the senate dealing with stem cell research. George W Bush currently has a hold on not letting stem cell research be conducted. One bill would stop scientists from, "fetus farming," or creating embryos from the research. Another one of them would look to find alternate ways to conduct stem cell research by not destroying embryos. This is one of the most debated topics in our government.
My view on this subject is that i believe that is ok to conduct stem cell research. It is beneficial to those who can recover from crippling injuries or those who have certain cancers. It does have its downside of the fact that they create embryos to conduct their research but the good out ways the bad. Some people see it as immoral to destroy a life by the fact that they aren’t fully developed makes it ok they aren’t yet a human being.
Army of the Pharaohs is a rap super group of underground rap artists. The group was started in 1998 under the leadership of Vinnie Paz, the lead of the HorrorCore rap group Jedi Mind Tricks, originating from the streets of Philadelphia. The groups members include Vinnie Paz, Planetary and Crypt The Warchild from rap group Outerspace, 7L, Celph Titaled, Reef the Lost Cauze, King Syze, Jus Allah, Esoteric, King Magnetic, Doap Nixon, Des Devious, Demoz, and Chief Kamachi. The group has independently released four albums and is working on the 5th. The group has also has four former members, Stoupe, the other half of Jedi Mind Tricks, Bahamadia, Virtuoso, and Faez One, but they either left or was removed because of creative conflicts. The band recently went on tour with the reformed Rage Against the Machine and Wu Tang Clan in the summer of 2007. The super group of east coast underground rappers looks very promising to be a force in the mainstream hip-hop game in the years to come. The only thing that may doom the group is the success of the member’s solo albums and the amazing success of Jedi Mind Tricks in recent years.
Right now the U.S. Senate is debating on whether or not to pass the surveillance bill. This bill would allow the telecommunication company to wire-tap phones and see private emails of "suspected terrorists." George W. Bush is pushing the Senate to stop debating and act because they are helping the terrorists plan an attack that would "Pale in comparison of 9/11" This bill would mainly help get the participation of the telecommunication companies to help the government because before this bill is passed the companies have been getting sued for contradicting the privacy act. George W. Bush says "If we don't pass this bill the telecommunication companies will be reluctant to help if they stand to lose billions of dollars in law suits."
My take on this bill is one of disgust. Not only are to defying what is written in the constitution but you are also making heavy strides to despotism and control over people’s daily lives. What else this bill is doing is making the American people lose trust in their government and leaders and without trust the country cannot be united and the whole fabric of our way of life will collapse and our great nation will crumble like every other great empire in the history of civilized man. A way to some this up perfectly would be using a quote from one of our founding fathers Benjamin Franklin, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"
The professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is proposed with a 20 million dollar contract to participate in the WWE. If you don’t know what the WWE is it stands for World Wrestling Entertainment. The pro boxer was at the last pay-per-view and was written into the story line as a supporter of the wrestler Ray Mysterio Jr. Ray Mysterio lost his match against Edge. After the match ended the "retired" wrestler the Big Show came out and started pummeling the defeated Mysterio. After this occurred Mayweather jumped out of his front row seat and repeatedly struck the big show with a flurry of punches. He has not yet signed the contract but most likely will. I am very excited to see where this story line between these three goes
The Super Bowl is the pinnacle of American sports, while baseball may be the America's past time, football is definitely America's passion. Withe undefeated Patriots taking on the Giants it was looking to be a memorable super bowl indeed. As most know the giants won in a nail biter in the 4th quarter sent the now 18-1 patriots back home without the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but what almost nobody knows is the fact that a man named Kurt William Havelock planned as he told the media "Shed the blood of the innocent.." Havelock told authorities he had planned to shoot many fans during the game because his restaurant was denied a liqueur license. Good thing he decided not to carry through with his plans because he was armed with a assault rifle and over 200 rounds. This would of been a terrible event and thankfully he changed his mind.
